IN CHARACTER
Name: Anna Marie D’Ancanto Rogue
Canon: X-Men
Canon Point: Right after leaving the Institute to go get cured, but before taking said cure during X3.
Age: 18

History: http://xmenmovies.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue

Personality: As if the accent didn't tell you, Rogue is a Southern Belle. Or at least, that was how she raised. Priscilla, her adoptive mother, decided that she needed to be the perfect Southern woman. As a result, Rogue is nice and hospitable, unless you've pissed her off, but even then she maintains a sort of grace about it. It takes a lot to make her loose control, and she practices maintaining her control every day for fear of what would happen if she lost it. Even if she's angry with you, she won't be outright rude. She'll be rude in a subtle way, finding a way to knock your ego down a few pegs. Occasionally, this involves her throwing something she has absorbed from you back in your face, though she hates to do it. Anything to keep people at bay and herself safe, however. Still, she's got a sharp tongue and isn't afraid to tell people what she thinks.

On a similar note, Rogue will throw as many punches as need be to keep people at a distance. She's afraid that if anyone gets close they'll abandon her, as most people have done throughout her life. As a result, she's on lockdown about her life before the Institute, and even parts of it that happened afterward. If she says anything about this to you, you can guarantee it's a slip up. Be aware, however, the harder Rogue fights you, chances are the more she likes you in one way or another. It's easier to fight, she's realized, than let someone in.

Wanting to keep people at bay, Rogue is often sarcastic and bitter. It's a natural defense mechanism, and she often deploys it around those she's known for a longer period of time, and those that she doesn't particularly like. When she first meets someone, she'll be friendly, as anyone would be, of course. She is just used to people not giving her a chance, going off of here-say rather than actually getting to know her. Though, while she is still bitter and sarcastic, she's a nice girl who does like to smile- it's simply that few have seen it. You can count on her to be there for you as best she can, and is loyal until you do something to deserve her turn. Then you're going to wish you hadn't.

Rogue was once called the 'Patron Saint of Been-There'. Only eighteen, Rogue's been through a whole hell of a lot, and she recognizes this. As a result, she's happy to lend an ear to people who need it. She likes to reach out to new students and make them feel welcomed like she was when she'd first arrived at the Institute. Of course, this is part of because she'd rather them get to know her through herself rather than hear what everyone else has to say about her first.

She's done things she's regretted, and as a result, is often plagued by her past. Lately, however, Rogue has been trying to get past this. She's trying to move on with her life and deal with each day as it comes rather than living in the past. Subsequently, she's doing a lot better as far as her emotions go, and is generally a more pleasant person to be around.

Rogue has always been a bit of a rebel. After all, that's how she got her name. Priscilla was quite the control freak, and as a result, Rogue tried to do everything she could to maintain some of who she was. Incidentally, it is part of Priscilla's upbringing that most likely factors into part of why Rogue cannot control her powers. Though since Rogue's powers arrived, she's found herself falling more and more into line, because she worries about hurting people. Of course, she's still got her rebellious streak, and has yet to lose her old Southern sass.

Gifted with a strong fight or flight instinct, Rogue is one to leave rather than deal with the hard stuff. She firmly believes that she can runaway from her problems, even though they have a habit of catching up with her. She'll either do this by physically leaving, or taking another way around it, trying to ignore the problem until it goes away. Unfortunately, this often tends to bite her in the ass.

Most people think Rogue tends to complain a lot, and while she may do it on occasion (who doesn't), she's most often simply stating the facts. She's extremely aware of the reality of her powers, and her life, and is slowly coming to accept it. It may seem like whining, but it's fact stating, and she's starting to get really irritated when people confuse the two of them.

Ask her how she's doing and Rogue will often tell you she's doing fine. She couldn't be farther from that; It’s difficult, as she'll tell you if you ask, watching people at school touch as if it were nothing, like it weren't a gift. She has to live with the fact that she will never be able to touch another living person. She'll never be able to have a normal relationship, have a family. That takes it's toll on someone. You'd have to be stupid not to see it.

Abilities/Skills: Rogue's powers are quite complicated, and not at all pleasant to live with. Rogue has been 'gifted' with the ability to absorb powers, memories, and personality via skin-to-skin contact. This would be awesome, if it weren't for the fact that she cannot control her mutation, leaving her incapable of physical contact. Her powers allow her to, with a single touch, gain important information or abilities such as, for example, flight, when it is needed. Unfortunately, she is unable to keep a stock of these abilities in her head, and the length these abilities remain depends on how long the contact is maintained. This often leaves the 'victim' for lack of better word weak or unconscious. If contact is maintained for too long of a period, the transfer can become permanent with the victim lying dead as a result.

Rogue's absorption powers often extend to physical characteristics as well. If, say, she touched Beast, the white streaks in her hair would turn blue and her nails would grow, while if she touched Pixie, her eyes would take on her characteristic black hue. Growing something, such as wings or a tail, however, would take prolonged skin-contact, and she really has no desire to try this out for herself.

Ironically, if she touches someone, she receives full control of their powers, even if they themselves lack the control. For example, if she touched Cyclops, she would be able to control his optic blasts.

The longer she touches someone, the longer she retains their powers for. This also translates to the more damage she does to someone. When it comes to Rogue's death touch, everyone is on the same playing field. Even someone with enhanced stamina would feel the same effects as someone without it.

Whenever she touches someone, the process is painful for both parties. For the victim, it feels almost as if you are falling into a vacuum. However, there is something about her mutation that makes the victim not want to let go. They want to keep touching her. Rogue, on the other hand, feels the opposite. She feels everything rushing into her, and experiences all the memories she receives (most often the strongest memories-- be this most important, most recent, most horrific, best, it all depends on the person). yet, Rogue too has to fight not to hold on. As much as she hates it, she loves the feeling of touching someone-- just the skin contact. She hates everything else that comes with it.

This power is not without it's draw backs- Rogue runs the risk of all the personalities that she has absorbed running loose in her mind, as well as their memories. In fact, at this moment, for her the absorption process is painful, leaving her often slightly disoriented and in pain. Of course, one of the most important drawbacks to any teenage girl is this simple fact: Rogue is unable to control her powers. This means, she is unable to touch anyone, ever, or run the risk of hurting them when she doesn't want to.

The longer Rogue touches you, the more damage she does. At Professor Xavier's estimate, touching someone for only 10 seconds would leave them dead, while 8-9 seconds would leave them in a coma. Interestingly enough, Rogue's powers take a second or two to warm up. That doesn't mean you won't feel something odd when you touch her, even for a second.

If someone is inorganic, Rogue cannot absorb them. So, if she were to touch someone made of metal, there would be no transfer, and neither girl would feel anything as a result. Rogue is also unable to absorb animals.

The greatest drawback Rogue has with her powers, other than her inability to touch, is that she hates to use them. The memories of everyone floating in her head is often too much for her to handle, and as a result of their voices in her head, she is plagued by nightmares. Because of this, and the pain it causes anyone she touches, she is only likely to use her mutation in dire circumstances. Lately though, she has been working on the concept of suffering for the sake of suffering, or suffering for the sake of saving someone.

ADDITIONALLY: Rogue cannot fly a plane, but she can drive a car. She speaks fluent French and English, is an accomplished pianist, and is quite a brawler in a fight.

SAMPLES
Network Sample: [A young woman appears on the screen, she’s pale, but the most striking feature about her would have to be the white streaks that frame her face, standing out in contrast from her otherwise brown hair. She gives a half-smile, and holds up a gloved hand in greeting.]

Hey, ya’ll. So I know some of everyone here happens to be from the same… worlds, I guess? Universe? So I just thought I’d ask… Does the letter X mean anything to you?

[She doesn’t want to come right out and announce to the whole place that she’s part of a group of mutants that sometimes go out and superhero. She doesn’t know what sort of people are here, what their prejudices might be. It’d be really stupid to come out and tell everyone she kills people when she touches them. That’d be a fast way to get herself airlocked, and she’d rather not experience that, thanks.]

CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Rogue
CANON: X-Men Films
AGE: 18
CANON POINT: X-3. Before she gets the Cure.

BACKGROUND: http://xmenmovies.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue
INCENTIVE/FIT: Rogue's incentive is that at Eudio, her mutant power would be negated. This means that, for the first time in two years, she will be able to touch people without killing them.

Rogue has a strong need for physical contact, and having been approached at her most vulnerable, while she was waiting to get cured of her mutation, she's willing to do anything to be allowed to touch someone. She's only been kissed, and the fact that all sorts of physical contact is useful just really seals the deal for her.

ANYTHING ELSE? Rogue's mutation (life-force absorption through physical contact) will be nerfed! This renders her completely "normal" for lack of better terms.

PAST Rogue's past involves triggering subjects, such as child abuse, torture, and depression. If you wish to OPT OUT of this being spoken about in threads, let me know.

POWERS Rogue's powers suck. Literally. If she touches you with her bare skin, she absorbs your memories and life force. NOTE: Rogue hates her powers and avoids using them at all costs. I will never have her touch your character without contacting you first. If you wish for Rogue to be able to touch your character, let me know the following:
-LENGTH how long can she touch you? A few seconds disorients you. Then knocks you out. Prolongued contact leads to coma and death.
-MEMORIES What memories can she get from you? Generally she pulls the strongest memories. She cannot choose herself what she gets. Any information she'd get from your memories?
-POWERS If you're a super-powered individual, what sort of powers does she get access to if she touches you? She doesn't keep them for too long, don't worry, you can have them back.
-PERSONALITY What are a few key personality traits she'll pick up from you during all of this? These traits last about as long as the powers do.
-VOICES is having your character's voice in her head for the rest of forever going to cause any serious harm to her? Would it influence her in major ways?
-SITUATIONAL Eh maybe she can touch you. The situation just has to be right/we'll chat about it before hand.
-OPT OUT in case you don't want her to touch you. At all.
